Our Story

How it all started...

In 1903 service was held in Bro. & Sis. Isaac Stone’s
house. In 1904 they were organized as a church body
and began meetings in the Emory Cain Industrial
School at Blake Street and Indiana Avenue (Lockfield
Gardens).
The Church experienced several moves, one being,
719 W. 11th Street, a three-room house. Meetings were
held in the basement until completion of the church.
The first pastor assigned by the National Official board
was Elder B. Keeble. Succeeding Elder Keeble was
Rev. C.A. Jones, Bell Jones, A.J. Hawthorne, Bishop
E.T. Webb, Elder Buchner, Elder B.M. Campbell, Elder
A.J. Moore, Elder N.H. Hawkins, Elder W. Ferguson,
Bishop O.V. Hall, Bishop Satarnes, Bishop Harrell and
Bishop Overton.
Bishop Hall pastored nine years before becoming
Chief Bishop of the Church of the Living God. During
Bishop Overton’s pastorate, the 11th Street location
was relocated to 542 N. California Street. In this
location the congregation had a baptistery, allowing
them to no longer conduct Baptisms at the previous
location, in Fall Creek, across from Wishard Hospital.
In 1951 the move to Ethel Street took place. The
ministers assigned to Ethel Street were Elders John
Overton, James Ayers, W. Moore and Bishop James
Hawkins.

In October 1961 Bishop James Hawkins was
appointed and two additional moves took place.
In 1964 the church moved to 3001 N. Gale. On
September 6, 1981, the church moved to its current
location at 2502 E. 38th Street. This was the 5th move
since leaving their first church home at 719 W. 11th
Street.
In 2001, upon Bishop Hawkins’ retirement after 40
years of service, Overseer Frederick Bradley became
Pastor. In 2015 Overseer Bradley retired and our
beloved Rev.  Orlando D. Jordan, Jr. became
Pastor. In 2015, under his leadership we left the
organization and became Resurrection Community Church.

Expanding the vision...

As we advance the vision of God for our church, we are taking a more holistic approach and adding more ministries that minister to the entire family helping to build a more solid faith foundation for the youngest to oldest in every member's home.

Where we are headed...

As we continue to grow, we want to stay true to our original mission to impact our community in positive ways, provide socio-economic education and growth to our community, and remain a beacon of hope and help to neighbors experiencing homeless and addiction.
